To be honest, it all began as a joke.
About a year ago, I decided to go buy a new pair of glasses with increased light glare reduction. (Damned light sensitivity…) I found that the best tint for this yellow. It is, after all, the color used by hunters and competitive shooters. When I put on the new glasses, they worked great- but when my friends first saw me wearing them, they wondered what the fuck I was thinking. So I ad-libbed, saying that while most people choose to look at life through rose-colored glasses, I preferred to view it through urine-tinted lenses.
And so it began…
As I kept using the joke, I came to realize had become a metaphor for how I view life. While in general I try to be optimistic and humorous with my views, unlike people who follow without question and put their blind faith in convention, (Hopenchange, anyone?) I feel I MUST question, MUST be skeptical… MUST find the truth in the tale.
When I study a situation, I try to find out as much as possible about it, then I make a choice based on all the evidence I have gathered. This method has made others label me an argumentative or contrarian, but I believe that if you make a choice without knowing the consequences, you deserve what you get.
So I use this philosophy in naming and planning this blog. When necessary, I will present the facts for my cases, and rationally explain why I have made the decisions I did. And I shall do so, when possible, with humor, but rarely, if ever, with maliciousness. We as a society have become, in my opinion, far too coarse, and I will try my best to not add to it. My goal is not to force you to my view, but to make you think about your views. I want you to prove to yourself why the views you have chosen are the right ones… and maybe convince me. After all, I like to say that a mind that refuses to see other possibilities is a mind that has stopped growing.
